The Opportunity

SSM Health Dean Medical Group, a 450+ physician multi-specialty group is actively searching for a full time (1.0 FTE) Urology Advanced Practitioner (NP or PA) to join our busy Urology Department at SSM Health in Madison, WI. Our team currently consists of 5 physicians and 4 Advanced Practitioners providing urological care focused on improving patient well-being and prognosis.

Highlights:

  • 4-day work week, split between surgical assist in OR, inpatient management, and outpatient clinic

  • 1 in 5 on-call weeknights, weekends, and rotating holiday with peers

  • Outpatient clinic visits including medication checks, post-op care, visits with new and established patients, and more.

  • Outpatient clinic procedures including cystoscopy with ureteral stent removal

  • Perform clinical procedures independently such as complex catheter insertions, dilations, and bladder irrigation

  • Assist in the Operating Room including robotic, laparoscopic, endoscopic, and open surgical procedures

  • Opportunities to provider outreach care at SSM Health clinics outside of Madison

A well-qualified candidate will have:

  • A high degree of decision-making skills in the assessment, diagnosis, and management of individuals with acute and chronic urological problems including but not limited to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), Overactive Bladder (OAB), Hematuria, recurrent UTIs, stones, ED and more

  • Experience working in an operating room and assisting with surgery

Experience and expertise are preferred but the team is ready to train new graduates and onboard them to the exciting world of Urology!

St. Mary’s Hospital has been serving South Central Wisconsin since 1912. The hospital is a tertiary care facility with 350 beds that is used by the Dean physicians. The hospital and the Dean Clinic work in a complementary manner on many joint ventures to provide excellence in patient care. Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Supervising Physician(s) and in association with hospital/clinical staff, assists in the delivery of quality medical care.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Attends initially to a patient in any setting to obtain a personal medical history, perform an appropriate physical examination, and record and present pertinent data concerning the patient, including all screenings and diagnostics, in a manner meaningful to the supervising physician.

  • Performs, or assists in performing, routine diagnostic studies as appropriate for the specific practice setting.

  • Performs routine therapeutic procedures, including, but not limited to; injections immunizations; suturing and care of wounds; application and removal of splints or cast; and oral medications.

  • Instructs and counsels patients on physical and mental health, including diet, disease, normal growth and development.

  • Depending upon specialty of practice, assists the physicians in the hospital by making patient rounds, recording patient progress notes, compiling and recording discharge summaries, and accurately writing and executing orders under the supervision of a physician and with physician co-signature as required.

  • Reflecting specialty of practice, abides by the bylaws, advanced practice provider guidelines, and other hospital regulations concerning clinical privileges, rules of conduct, parking regulations, and no solicitation. Does not participate in any activity that is not approved by hospital credentialing. Adheres to policies on “physician extenders” and “supervision of advanced practice providers in the hospital setting."

  • Assists in the delivery of medical care to the patient by reviewing and monitoring treatment and the therapy plans.

  • Performs independently evaluative and treatment procedures necessary to provide an appropriate response to life-threatening emergency situation.

  • Facilitates referral of patients to other appropriate community health care facilities, agencies, and resources.

  • Issues written prescriptions orders for drugs under the supervision of the physician.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Master's degree in a health care related field and advanced certifications

  • One year healthcare experience
